Seaweed, traded fairly

Blue Ventures buys seaweed from the farmers who grow it in Pemba and sells it on.

Seaweed farming on the island is mostly done by women, standing in the water at low tide, and what the work earns them depends entirely on who buys it and at what price. A trader who pays late, pays little, or disappears at the end of a season decides how that household eats.

That is the reason the company exists rather than the marketing around it. It sits inside her wider work supporting the island community in Pemba.
